Argentine Tennis Player Facundo Mena Eliminated from Rosario Tournament

In Rosario, Argentina, Argentine tennis player Facundo Mena (ranked 354th) was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Challenger 125 tournament, held at the Jockey Club. His opponent was Taiwanese player Chun Hsin Tseng (ranked 122nd). According to the Argentine News Agency, Mena lost 6-3 and 7-5 in the first match on the central court. Thus, the Argentine could not continue his surprising run after having eliminated the experienced Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in the previous round, and he said goodbye to the Rosario tournament. Facundo Mena was defeated in the second round and was the first Argentine to fall in the quarterfinals of the event organized in Rosario. Facing a very consistent rival, Mena managed to hold his serve for the first six games, although errors began to appear in the second half of the first set. With some balls staying in the net and timing issues that made him hit uncomfortably, mainly caused by gusts of wind that began to pick up, Mena suffered two breaks towards the end, which gave the first set to his opponent. At the start of the second set, in which both players showed dissatisfaction with the condition of the court, Mena managed to take the first break and start with an advantage, although Tseng equalized in the fourth game with a backhand passing shot from three-quarters of the court. During the second set, the Argentine found good feelings with his kick serves, generating uncomfortable returns from his rival when receiving high balls, and with his net play, so he began to approach to finish points with a volley or a smash. Having broken again in the seventh game, the 33-year-old player served for the set but could not hold his serve due to a forehand shot that went wide. Against a triple match point, and despite saving the first one, a new error from the Argentine, whose shot went long, gave the match to the Taiwanese player, who made no mistakes during the decisive games. With the victory, Tseng advanced to the semifinals and awaits a rival between Spaniard Nikolas Sánchez Izquierdo (279th) and Argentine Valerio Aboian (526th).
